Johnny R. Armijo II has established himself as a pioneering figure in the field of conflict resolution, serving as the inaugural ombudsperson at both the University of Northern Colorado and California State University Monterey Bay. With a mission to foster a healthy and collaborative environment, Johnny has implemented innovative dispute resolution mechanisms that have significantly enhanced the workplace culture at these institutions. His role has involved providing neutral, independent, and confidential conflict management services, which include mediation, facilitated conversations, and resilience training. Through his efforts, he has successfully addressed a wide range of issues, from interpersonal conflicts to systemic organizational challenges, ensuring that all voices are heard and respected. Additionally, Johnny is a member of the Board of Directors of the California Caucus of College and University Ombuds (CALCAUCUS) and a member of the International Ombuds Association, where he serves as a facilitator in their Foundations classes for new and aspiring Ombuds.
In addition to his work at these universities, Johnny has extended his expertise to clients ranging from Monterey Peninsula College to individual consultations. Over the past three years, he has been a steadfast advocate for effective conflict resolution, leveraging his comprehensive education, which includes a Master's degree in Dispute Resolution and Conflict Management from Southern Methodist University. His academic background, combined with his practical experience, has equipped him with the skills necessary to navigate complex disputes and foster a culture of open communication and mutual respect. Johnny's commitment to empowering individuals and organizations through conflict resolution is evident in his ongoing dedication to his clients and the lasting impact of his work.

Armijo II proudly serves as a Senior Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force Reserve, where he has dedicated over 32 years of honorable service. Currently, Johnny is an Equal Opportunity Practitioner with the 302nd Airlift Wing at Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado. His extensive military career has equipped him with a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by servicemen and women, and he has played a crucial role in promoting fairness, equality, and inclusivity within the military. Johnny is a Master Resilience Trainer and has trained hundreds of Airmen and Soldiers in the skills to build resilience. He has certified over 160 people during a recent deployment, where his impact has been worldwide due to the students coming from bases around the world. His commitment to his fellow service members is reflected in his efforts to mediate conflicts and foster a supportive environment where everyone has the opportunity to succeed and serve their country with pride. He is a member of the Equity and Diversity Team.
Johnny’s distinguished career also includes service in the United States Navy, which has taken him around the world and provided him with diverse experiences in conflict resolution and leadership. His global perspective and hands-on approach have enabled him to address and resolve conflicts among Airmen and Soldiers, ensuring a just and equitable military culture. Johnny's dedication to creating a fair and equal environment for all service members underscores his passion for supporting those who commit to serving their country. His dual roles in both the civilian and military sectors highlight his versatile skill set and unwavering commitment to fostering positive change through effective conflict resolution.
